Teen Girl Pictures Lead To Arrest

Published: Dec 16, 2003 - 06:54 PM

A Kernersville man has been charged with felony child exploitation after a pornographic picture of a local teen-age girl was found on his computer, according to court documents. Brad McGinnis, 50, of 8341 Lenbrook Road is also charged with three felony counts of indecent liberties with a child, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a search warrant filed in connection with the case, McGinnis' wife, Elaine, stayed at his house over Thanksgiving so that she could spend time there with the couple's teen-age daughter. The couple are separated.

While in the house, Elaine McGinnis discovered pornographic pictures of several minors, the search warrant said.

The pictures included a 13-year-old girl whom Elaine McGinnis knew. She contacted the girl's parents, who told her that the girl had recently spent the night in the home and that Brad McGinnis had shown the girl movies and given her something to drink that evening, according to the search warrant.

The parents of the girl also said that when she returned home she acted strangely, had slurred speech and cried for no apparent reason, according to the search warrant.

Authorities confiscated a computer, digital-camera equipment and several kinds of prescription medications from the home.

Sgt. Brad Stanley of Forsyth County said he did not know how many victims were involved but said that there was a series of pictures of minors on the computer.

"We're trying to identify who those other individuals are," he said.

Stanley said he didn't know how Brad McGinnis knew the girls in the photographs or how many of the pictures involved girls from Kernersville or if any of the girls knew their pictures were being taken. Investigators are still trying to determine whether any of the images had been downloaded from the Internet onto McGinnis' computer or whether they had been shared with other Internet users, Stanley said.

McGinnis is being held in the Forsyth County Jail with bond set at $600,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 19.

Stanley said that anyone with information on the case should call the department's criminal-investigation division at 748-4120 or CrimeStoppers at 727-2800.
